GPT-6.1 Terra shipped on October 26, 2026 as gpt-6.1-terra, and it is the cheapest route OpenAI has yet offered to computer use and visual reasoning. The rate is $1 per million input tokens and $5 output, with cached input at $0.05, which is half the standard price of both GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol. Cache writes run $1.25 for 30 minute retention and $2.50 for 12 hour retention, Batch and Flex come in at half the standard rate, fast mode doubles it, and regional processing adds 10 percent where offered. The long-context rule from the rest of the generation carries over: a prompt above 272,000 input tokens bills the whole request at 2x input and cache and 1.5x output. The window is 1,050,000 tokens with 128K output, text and image input, text output only, reasoning effort from none through max with medium as the default, and a knowledge cutoff of June 1, 2026. Fine tuning is not supported. OpenAI positions it below Sol and Astra on raw capability and above both on speed, claiming more than 3x the throughput of either. The launch figures are vendor numbers and worth testing on your own tasks: Terminal-Bench 4.0 at 50.3 percent at max effort against 21.5 for GPT-5.6 Terra, a score on Agents' Last Exam at medium effort 15 points above GPT-5.6 Terra and level with GPT-6 Astra, MMMU-Pro above GPT-5.6 Terra at every setting, OSWorld 2.1 at medium effort above GPT-5.6 Terra's best, and an error rate on OpenAI's internal error-inducing prompt set down from 53.6 percent to 16.7 at low effort and 4.3 at max. HealthBench Professional improves to 62.7 from 57.7, though standard HealthBench slips to 55.1 from 57.0, so it does not win on every board. Access is through the OpenAI API at the Build tier and above, with computer use available as a hosted tool in the Responses API, plus ChatGPT Work, Codex, and GitHub Copilot for Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu accounts. It is not in regular ChatGPT Chat, Free, or Go at launch, and it is not offered for UAE inference residency. GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol both stay on the price list and neither is deprecated.
