Claude Opus 4.8 is Anthropic's flagship as of May 28, 2026, arriving just six weeks after Opus 4.7. Anthropic describes it as a more effective collaborator with sharper judgement, more honesty about its own progress, and the ability to work independently for longer. Agentic coding climbs from 64.3% to 69.2% and knowledge work from 1753 to 1890 on Anthropic's own measures, while API pricing holds at $15 input and $75 output per million tokens. The new fast mode is roughly 2.5x quicker and about three times cheaper than before. It keeps the 1 million token context window and adds Dynamic Workflows for large-scale parallel subagent tasks.
