Grok Build

xAI

xAI's terminal coding agent, run as the grok command and now powered by Grok 4.7. It ships as a fullscreen, mouse-interactive TUI, a headless mode for scripts and CI, and an Agent Client Protocol (ACP) interface for use inside other apps. Larger tasks are split across parallel subagents, each with its own context window and optionally its own git worktree, and plan mode blocks every edit until the plan is approved. Skills, plugins, hooks, MCP servers, and AGENTS.md files work out of the box. The Rust source is on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. On the Terminal-Bench 4.0 board, Grok Build with Grok 4.7 scores 37.6 percent, a 17-point gain over Grok 4.6 (20.3) on the same harness, with Grok 4.5 at 12.4.

Distribution

Open-source CLI under the Apache 2.0 license, written in Rust. Install with curl -fsSL https://x.ai/cli/install.sh | bash on macOS, Linux, and WSL, or the PowerShell installer on Windows. On first launch it signs in through the browser; headless environments use an XAI_API_KEY.

Model Story

Grok 4.7 by default. Any custom model can be added in ~/.grok/config.toml with its own base URL and API key, then picked with -m or /model.

Pricing

Free to try. xAI subscriptions share one AI usage pool across Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine, and Build; with an XAI_API_KEY, usage bills to the xAI API instead.
